Turbo testing
Azalea Aviation is proud to provide ongoing updates and innovations for the Spyder Corvair Engine Conversion, specifically the Turbo Spyder configuration. The turbocharged version of the engine has undergone extensive testing, delivering significant improvements in performance, particularly in climb rates and cruise speeds.
Performance Overview
Our testing process has been thorough, involving over 250 hours of flight testing. The data from this testing continues to show improvements in both power output and engine efficiency. The turbocharger package is designed to enhance the capabilities of our existing Spyder engines, providing:- Increased Climb Performance: Turbocharging has led to better performance during climbs, allowing the aircraft to ascend faster and more efficiently.
- Enhanced Cruise Speeds: A noticeable improvement in cruising speed makes long-distance flights smoother and faster.
Engine Inspection and Maintenance
After accumulating 250 flight hours, we conducted an in-depth inspection of the turbocharged engine, particularly focusing on the heads, pistons, and cylinders. The results of the inspection were promising, showing normal wear and tear with no significant issues, apart from an early ring issue on one piston, which was easily resolved. The engine has been reassembled, and we plan to conduct another inspection after another 250 hours of flight time. Placeholder for Inspection Photos
Development Goals
As we continue to refine our turbo system, the aim is to ensure the engine's long-term reliability while exploring potential areas for improvement. We are committed to offering an engine that meets the highest standards for experimental aviation. Future developments may include:
Testing Process and Results
Our testing has also involved real-world flight scenarios, with pilots providing feedback on the turbo system’s performance under various conditions. This valuable data helps us ensure that the Turbo Spyder configuration is both powerful and reliable for different aircraft builds.
